Within walking distance [2 km/1 miles] of tiny Pozzuolo, south-west of Lake Trasimeno. The fortified promontory of Castiglione del Lago offers a castle, beaches and sailing 15 minutes’ drive to the east, and to the south is the little hilltop town of Chiusi with its Etruscan tombs and museums. Two more hilltop villages, Montepulciano, world renowned for it’s wine cellars in the Etruscan walls and Cortona, centre of art and antiques, can be reached in about 20 minutes. The ancient city of Perugia, can be reached in 40 minutes, with the enchanting Assisi not far beyond. Further afield are Siena, Arezzo and Orvieto, all less than an hour away. Florence and Rome are also within a day trip.
